Content basics during COVID-19

March 18, 2020

Content and consistent messaging are more important than ever.

Be prepared to create loads of engaging and targeted content as social media & content consumption changes faster than you can say #FlatternTheCurve.

Not only are we worrying about our health and the health of our loved ones, but for many of us operating businesses, we’re thinking about how we will survive the likely economic recession that awaits.

If you’re a conventional business, you’re probably brainstorming how to get online.

If your an online business, you’re wondering if the marketplace is about to get even more crowded.

If you’re like us, overlapping between both worlds, we're wondering what needs to be cranked up and or down within our business. Honestly, none of us know exactly how this will play out.

What we can predict and be prepared for is getting ready for a big change in the way people consume content. With consistent and empathic messaging being more important than ever. But how do you continue to grow as a business without being insensitive?

The task seems overwhelming! You have to protect your business by encouraging consumers to support you in a world of the unknown. We are going back to our roots and investing in content. Now is the best time to embrace content creation. It's about delivering the right message at the right time to the right people via the most appropriate platform.

Let's revisit the basics when creating content:

Keep it real

COVID-19 is happening whether you like it or not. Pretend it’s not and your content will be seen as unsettling and insensitive.

Brand identity
You have brand values for a reason. Reflect on what you stand for and let that guide the messaging.

Understand changing consumer behaviour
As many of us are switching to working from home, our habits are also changing. Gone is the daily commute to work and time to embrace to the new wave of media consumption. If blogging, podcasting or launching a new social channel has crossed your mind, now is the time. And if you need help doing it, our remote team are here to help. You can turn us on and off as needed.

Leverage UGC
A lot of the world is facing self isolation, meaning they’ll be confined to their homes. How can you engage people in a meaningful and authentic way during this time? Most of us will be going out of our minds looking for ways to maintain a sense of community. Need ideas? We’re available for brainstorms and longer term projects.

Leverage webinars

Some of our clients have told us, if they are to be quarantined they will be developing their skills and looking to further educate themselves. If you’ve been thinking of developing online training material, now the perfect time to get those training packages in place through webinars. Don't know where to start, we can help.

Stay connected

As events are being cancelled by the minute, interactive live streaming is the way to go. It’s a great way to stay connected with your audience. You can read more about interactive live streaming in a previous blog post. Contact us if you would like to hear how interactive live streaming can help you to stay connected. The best thing is viewers can get involved.

Consumer insight
Everyone is confused and concerned. If consumer insight is what you’re after, it's as easy as asking your clients/consumers to share their experiences about how they are spending their time while working from home with you.

We specialise in digital strategy, live streaming, content creation and social media strategy. We want to help businesses of all shapes and sizes navigate this difficult time, enabling them to build strong communities and come out the other side of this pandemic. We’ve mastered the art of the video conference during our time so if you’re seeking help with remote content production, please get in touch.

Don’t need us? We do hope this guide was helpful.
